Status of the Work in Faido
In the TBM drive of the east tunnel, 10,104 metres of tunnel have been excavated; the average daily advance rate in June 2010 was around 8.1 metres. The campaign to explore the rockfall in the west tunnel continues to make rapid progress. The cement injections were completed on June 31, 2010. The rock is now reinforced sufficiently to allow driving the crown as far as the TBM cutting head. It is planned to resume driving with the TBM in mid-July 2010.
Large sections of inner lining of the multifunction station are complete. Still to be completed are the final shotcreting work in the air extraction systems and east side passages as well as sealing and concreting of the tunnel branchoffs. Shotcreting work in the air extraction shaft west is complete. In the tunnel branchoff west-north the piers are being concreted.
On June 24, 2010, a serious accident occurred in the east tunnel. An employee of the local construction management fell out of the moving construction-site train, thereby receiving severe injuries. While being transported by ambulance to hospital the man died.
